Be fascinated and gain an in-depth understanding of our unique flora and fauna as we explore the forests, coastline and wildlife around Dunedin and on the Otago Peninsula.
This is a tour your guide Lyndon has been wanting to share since we started. As someone with 30 years of seabird and marine mammal conservation work, he can truly be regarded as an expert. We start with a gentle stroll through a wetland forest before embarking on another leisurely walk around a scenic reservoir (an opportunity to view bird species that are not on the peninsula) that borders on a temperate cloud forest.
From there it’s onto the Otago Peninsula in search of seals and sea lions. Then we’re off to a cliff viewing location near Taiaroa Head where we are often lucky to see albatross flying. As dusk arrives we settle in to watch little penguins emerge from the sea. After a refreshment break, there is opportunity to wonder at wildlife in the dark using specialized night vision gear, before returning to Dunedin.
