A 6-day small group (Max 8 guests) South Island nature based tour led by Lyndon Perriman, a wildlife and conservation expert, starting and finishing in Dunedin, including Milford & Doubtful Sounds, and the Catlins coastline.

A professionally fully guided tour designed for travellers who want to explore and gain a deeper insight into the people, flora, fauna and geology of our beautiful Southern lands.

 

Join Lyndon, a former Wildlife ranger with 30 years of conservation experience managing species such as albatross, seals, penguins, and takahe in this Southern region. If you want to really get to know nature, join a tour designed and led by a biologist!

 

Diverse landscapes, unforgettable wildlife and experiences abound as we navigate our way from Dunedin, through the ever changing Catlins coast to Fiordland where we cruise both Milford and Doubtful Sounds, doubling our chances of seeing Fiordland in all its glory.

Day 1 Dunedin: Introduction to Dunedin city & Larnach Castle 

Tour starts from Fable Hotel at 1pm (prior pick up from Dunedin Airport is included). We start by visiting our most iconic city sites and learn about Dunedin’s rich history. Later, a drive to Larnach Castle and get an overview of the Otago Peninsula.

Day 2 Dunedin: Wildlife and wilderness experiences  

We explore forests, travel along coastal inlets, take a stroll along a sandy beach and join a one-hour boat cruise. Later, an excursion on an 8-wheel all-terrain vehicle for penguin spotting. A mix of sites visited to ensure excellent views of royal albatross, seals, sea lions, penguins (yellow eyed and blue) and a variety of other marine life.

Day 3 Dunedin to Te Anau via the Catlins 

Departing Dunedin there's more wildlife to see as we wind our way South along the Catlins coastline visiting iconic Nugget Point and surrounds. Then we head West to Te Anau, the gateway to the Fiordland National Park and home to endangered wildlife species and breath-taking scenery. We have free time to explore the township and lakefront.

Day 4 Te Anau: Full day tour of Milford Sound 

Today we have a full day guided tour through to Milford Sound. The drive over is awe inspiring in its own right and you will have opportunity for photos and short walks (a chance to see kea, our mountain parrot). At the world famous Milford Sound, experience an amazing 2-hour cruise to view the spectacular scenery of the Sound. Lookout for dolphins and Fiordland Crested Penguins.

Day 5 Te Anau: Full day tour of Doubtful Sound 

Today, it’s another scenic wonderland, with a short drive to the starting point at Lake Manapouri, a short cruise on this lake terminates with a drive through the mountains before arriving at Doubtful Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this longer fiord, (another chance to encounter dolphins too) it’s so different from Milford it’s difficult to decide which one is the most spectacular. We will enjoy the debate on your return!

Day 6 Te Anau to Dunedin via the Catlins

We leave Te Anau and drive south to follow the coast. Arriving at Curio Bay where we have time to view the famous petrified forest.  Continue through the Catlins (stops included for wildlife and scenery) before returning to Dunedin.

Day 7 Depart Dunedin

After breakfast enjoy free time around Dunedin before being transported to the airport in time to catch your flight. Maybe plan your departure for a late afternoon flight so you have your own free time to check out our museums, street art or the botanic gardens.
